For most Canadians, the Labour Day long weekend signals a last chance at summer. In the city of St. Catharines, residents are well positioned to enjoy the long weekend without travelling far from home.

Whether you’re a long-time resident of St. Catharines or have just moved to the area, Panoramic Properties has some suggestions for events and activities. With the long weekend fast approaching, make the most of the season and plan a memorable weekend.

St. Catharines

On Friday August 31, see the supernatural and the past come to life with the Full Moon History and Haunts Walk in the historic downtown. For $8.00, you can participate in a guided tour by the light of the full moon. Explore the haunted tales of Downtown St. Catharines and call (905)-685-8424  or reserve tickets online.

Saturday morning, get up early to source the best of Niagara Region’s farm-fresh foods at The St. Catharines Farmers Market. Located at Market Square at 91 King St., the market has great food and fun activities for the whole family. On Saturday September 1, there is a free show by Trevor and the Tropical Islanders; tunes start at 11 a.m. and run into the afternoon.

Hosted by the Merritton Lions Club, the Labour Day Carnival spans the long weekend from August 31 to September 3. The carnival takes place at the Merritton Community Centre located at 7 Park Avenue. To save money and time, purchase your day pass for the midway from Classic Amusements online.

On Sunday September 2 there is a massive fireworks display at the Merritton Community Centre. Bring your chair and blankets and check out the display after dark (approximately 9:45 p.m.).

Wrap up your long weekend with the Merritton Labour Day parade following the route from Glendale Avenue east ending at the Carnival Grounds. If you’re feeling extra creative enter a float or participate in the parade!

Niagara Falls

If you feel like getting away from St. Catharines, there are still lots of options in the Niagara Region. Take the short drive to Niagara Falls and see a concert at Fallsview Casino Resort on Friday or Saturday evening. For an intimate evening, take in Songwriter’s Night at Avalon Theatre to see performances and interpretations of some Nashville’s most famous hits.

If you’re looking for something more upbeat, a good option for the whole family is Niagara Falls Buskerfest. The festivities run from Friday, August 31 to Sunday, September 2. Buskers from all around the world will showcase their street performances in Downtown Queen Street.

Stay-Cation

Whether you live in an apartment or town house make the most of the warmer temperatures and get together with friends and neighbours. An easy way to enjoy the last days of summer is to a host a memorable mini-break even without going out on the town.

Take advantage of your rental unit and the spacious balcony at Westgate Apartment Village. Show off  your upgraded suite and host a potluck lunch or dinner with friends. Bring the summer vibe to life and decorate with patio lanterns, twinkle lights and beach chairs.

If you’re thinking of moving in the fall, contact Panoramic Properties and start planning the Thanksgiving long weekend in your new St. Catharines apartment or townhouse.
