Escape the city in Mississauga

posted on August 04, 2022 in mississauga

Cities like Mississauga can feel like a hot concrete jungle in the summer, but Mississauga is also home to many spots where you feel like you're out of town. Here's how you can escape the feeling of the city without leaving Mississauga this summer.

Head to the waterfront

Mississauga is home to some breathtakingly beautiful waterfront! The city runs along a delightful area of Lake Ontario that's clean and warm enough to swim in in the summer. At times it looks like you're in the Caribbean! If you walk, bike or run along the Mississauga Waterfront Trail, part of the Great Lakes Waterfront Trail, on a sunny or overcast day, you'll definitely feel like you're out of town! You can even visit a beautiful beach in Richard's Memorial Park or Jack Darling Park.

Play or picnic in a park

It's the busy streets that make a place feel like a city, so head to greener pastures to feel like you've escaped! Did you know there are over 500 parks in Mississauga?! That's a lot of lush green terrain to explore! Some particularly beautiful parks to visit include Kariya Park (a stunning Japanese garden), Lakeside Park (a waterfront park with a great splash pad) and Danville Park (a great place to spot planes and play cricket).

Go for a hike

If you enjoy hiking, Mississauga offers ample trails for you to explore. Some favourites include the David J Culham Trail, the Erindale Park Trail, and the trails in Lake Aquitane Park and Rattray Marsh.

Go golfing

For many, vacation is golf time. But there's no need to leave Mississauga to enjoy a great golf game on a beautiful golf course! Brae Ben Golf Course is a challenging 18-hole championship course that offers incredible views of the city, and Lakeview Golf Course is one of the most stunning golf courses in the entire GTA.

Hit a patio

Patios are always a great getaway without getting away from the city, and Mississauga has some amazing ones! We love Promenade Patio and Snug Harbour which are both on the waterfront and boast spectacular views of the lake. The Wilcox Gastropub is another great place to visit for great food enjoyed outdoors.

Eat some ice cream

Nothing says summer vacation like ice cream, and Mississauga has some spectacular ice cream shops. Be sure to check out Port 1 Cafe and Gelateria, Scoops, Dairy King, Dairy Cream, and Murphy's Ice Cream Parlour.

We hope you explore more of Mississauga this summer to escape the city without leaving town!
