Make your own gift wrap

The holidays are about giving and receiving and the surprise of unwrapping a perfect gift can be the best part. Giftwrap can be expensive and wasteful, so for today’s post, the Panoramic Properties’ blog team has put together some tips to help residents of our Ottawa apartments save money and cut waste by making their own.

Recycled paper is perfect for making your own giftwrap during the holidays and for any occasion that requires giving presents. A 30-metre roll is just $5.99 at IKEA, (2685 Iris Street) which is just seven minutes away from our Baseline Court Apartments in Ottawa (1785-1815 Baseline Road). There are endless gift-wrapping options available with recycled paper. Use crayons and markers to add a bit of colour to the plain paper as a fun project that can keep kids busy for hours. Alternatively, use acrylic or spray paints, as well as rubber stamps to add some amazing prints to your paper.

Newspapers are a great inexpensive and eco-friendly option to use for gift-wrapping, especially if you use the comics section. You can add twine, bows or some ribbon to dress the paper up. To get some visual ideas, check out this picture from Martha Stewart’s website.

For a unique way to wrap gifts, take a trip to the local Value Village (1375 Clyde Avenue), which is just seven-minutes away from our Baseline Court Apartments (1785-1815 Baseline Road) and search for some vintage sheet music. You might find a collection of books that you can purchase together, or you can print some free sheets like this from the Internet. Once finished, add a colourful bow to make the present pop.

Small gifts like books, CDs, etc. can be dressed up using plain brown paper-bags, ribbons and craft scissors. For a quick and easy tutorial on how to make these, click here.
