Trouble Sleeping? Get The Best Sleep With These Fixes

posted on March 12, 2021

Do you struggle with sleep? Do you toss and turn, wake up in the middle of the night, or feel unrested come morning? If you answered yes to any of these questions, don’t lose hope! There are many things you can do to enhance your sleep. A good place to start is by making your home a sleep sanctuary. It’s time to get the best sleep with these fixes.

All you need to know about buying a bed

We spend about a third of each day in bed, so it is important to be comfortable and supported. At Panoramic Properties, we want our residents to feel relaxed and refreshed each morning. Our blog team has come up with a guide for all the things you need to know about buying a bed.

Sizes

Beds come in different sizes and figuring out which one will work for you is the first step in buying a bed. Twin (38″ x 75″) mattresses are large enough for one person and are most parents’ top pick for children. Full-size (53” x 75”) mattresses are a little bit wider than twins, but have the same length and are also recommended for one person. Queen-size (60″ x 80″) mattresses are great for one person who likes extra room and very common for couples. King-size (76″ x 80″) mattresses are comfortable, spacious, and ideal for couples who like extra sleeping space. California King Size (72″ x 84″) is four inches slimmer than a traditional King-size mattress, yet four inches longer.

Types

There are so many types of beds on the market: adjustable beds, bunk beds, canopy beds, day beds, sofa beds, and waterbeds. While canopy beds are aesthetically pleasing, they might not be the most practical. Day beds and sofa beds are wonderful as guest beds and bunk beds are perfect for families with more than one child who shares a room. Waterbeds conform to your body, however, some people may feel seasick sleeping on them.

Comfort

Mattresses are made up of a blend of materials and some include coils (check out this Reader’s Digest article on coils). Beds offer a variety of support levels and range from soft to firm and anything in between. It is best to try out every potential bed before making a final purchase, so be sure to lie down at the mattress store.

When to upgrade your bedding

Your bed is a place where you spend about a third of your day. To stay comfortable, it is important to have a comfortable mattress, but having nice bedding is crucial as well.

Rips or tears

If your bedding has rips or tears in it, it’s probably a good time to upgrade. Consider the thread count and blend. Egyptian cotton with a high thread count tends to be expensive, but that’s because it’s high quality.

Seasonal changes

Our bedding needs to change along with the seasons since you’ll want to keep cool in summer and stay warm in winter. A heavier blanket or duvet might be the update you need this season.

Stained pillows

Over time, pillows will become stained from the sweat, makeup, and/or hair products that comes into contact with them. Many pillows can be washed in large machines and the discolouration might go away. However, if that doesn’t help, you may want to upgrade your pillows

Accessories to help you sleep easy this winter

We know how important sleep is for restoring our minds and bodies, but some of us may have trouble falling or staying asleep in winter.

Eye mask

This inexpensive accessory helps to block out excess light in the bedroom, creating an ideal dark space to rest.

Humidifier

It can be hard to sleep properly if you aren’t breathing well at night. A humidifier can help you sleep easy during the colder months and at times when you might feel under the weather.

Space heater

If you like to sleep in an extra toasty room, and layering the blankets isn’t doing the job, this is the accessory for you.

Blackout curtains

If you struggle to sleep through the night, wake up at dawn before you want to, find light distracting at night, get too cold in winter or too hot in summer, then blackout curtains could be right for you. They block out light extremely effectively and can trap heat in your bedroom in winter or cool air in your bedroom in summer. They’re also useful for blocking noise! A great mattress

When was the last time you bought a new mattress? Or a good quality one? It’s important to think of a mattress as an investment in your health. Getting a good night’s sleep is vital, and a good mattress is a huge factor in that. Nobody will sleep well with a big spring pushing into their back!

White noise machine

Do you find that random noises wake you up? Your neighbour coming home late, perhaps? Or your cat wandering through your kitchen? If you can’t sleep because of what goes bump in the night, a white noise machine might help. It creates a steady, soothing background noise or soundscape to keep you calm and serene. Using one will drown out those random noises that keep you up at night. Shop white noise machines on Amazon

5 Sleeping solutions for guests

Now that you’ve created a sleep sanctuary for yourself, it’s time to consider creating quality rest solutions for your guests.

1. Double duty

A futon couch is a definite top-pick when it comes to convenient sleeping options for guests. A futon can serve as a couch during the day and then pull out into a bed for guests at night. Use an online guide to find the perfect futon for your guests.

 2. A daybed for nighttime

A daybed is another sleeping solution similar to a futon couch. The difference is that daybeds do not fold away, although some models do pull out to expand. A typical daybed is twin size, which works well if you have a guest coming to visit.

 3.  A bed of air

Want to convert any space in your apartment into a bedroom in only minutes? An air mattress is the solution you’re looking for. This handy option can be stored in any closet and then quickly and easily set up for your guests at night.

 4. A floor fit for a king

Don’t feel bad about using your floor as a sleeping solution for your guests. With a few simple couch cushions, pillows and blankets, your floor can prove a very comfortable sleeping spot. Make it a little more cozy by setting up a lamp and extra blankets nearby.

Panoramic Properties hopes that these solutions help you and your guests get the best sleep possible.
