Where to go skating in Ottawa

Winter may seem long but before you know it the spring months will be here. Panoramic Properties is excited about all the great winter activities you can enjoy near Baseline Court Apartments (1785-1815 Baseline Road) before the weather turns warmer. For today’s post, the blog team is featuring ice skating, a popular wintertime hobby that Ottawa does best.

Rideau Canal Skateway

From January through late February, plan a visit to the world’s largest skating rink, The Rideau Canal Skateway. This world-renowned attraction encompasses nearly eight kilometres, from downtown Ottawa to Dow’s Lake Pavilion. The National Capital Commission maintains and operates the rink, which is open twenty-four hours a day, as long as the ice conditions are safe.

Things to know before you go

Before you visit the Rideau Canal Skateway, make sure you are dressed warmly. Don’t worry if you need to warm up while skating, as the skateway has five rest areas along the Canal. These areas include washrooms, fire pits and snack stations.

Skate rental

Do you own a pair of ice skates? If not, the canal offers rentals, as well as skate sharpening. There are three different locations along the canal to rent and sharpen skates. Each location has different hours of operation. Visit the National Capital Commission website to learn more.

Other places to go

While the Rideau Canal Skateway is the most well known place to ice-skate in Ottawa, there are many other places to go skating nearby. A complete directory of Ottawa’s more than 250 outdoor rinks can be found online. Have fun exploring and getting to know the different rinks throughout the city this winter.

Don’t miss out on once-a-year wintertime activities. Instead, make plans today to go ice skating soon. Panoramic Properties hopes you have a fun and safe time on the ice, whether visiting Rideau Canal Skateway or trying out another outdoor rink nearby.
