How to revamp your apartment decor on a budget

posted on July 10, 2020

Small changes to your living space can make a big difference in the overall way that it looks, and the way that it makes you feel! If you’re ready for a refresh, but a big spend simply isn’t in the cards, here’s how to revamp your apartment decor on a budget.

The magic of mirrors

You can dramatically and affordably change the look and feel of any space by adding a floor-length mirror. It will make the room feel larger and more open. If you lean the mirror against a wall where it will reflect light from a window, you will maximize your results.

Revitalize your old furniture

If you want a new look, and aren't looking to spend a lot of money, consider painting an old piece of furniture or two. It’s a great way to add a pop of colour and really revitalize a room without having to shop for new stuff. You’ll need to remove any hardware, like knobs or handles, and maybe replace them with some updated hardware to complete the new look. Sand off any glossy finishes and lay down lots of dropcloths. Choose a well-ventilated area and/or low VOC paint. You may want to add a coat of water-based lacquer once the paint dries.

Declutter

Revamping your home decor can depend as much on what you remove from a room as what you add. Removing clutter will make your apartment feel larger, lighter and airier -- and it doesn’t cost you a dime to throw things away, or better yet, donate them to Goodwill or The Salvation Army.

Organize with style

If you can’t part with your clutter, consider packing some of it away with creative and stylish storage ideas. This could mean anything from a storage ottoman, a chest that serves double-duty as a coffee table, or even a stack of vintage suitcases placed in a corner as a lamp table.

Plants

A well-placed plant or two is the perfect way to literally and figuratively add life to a space. Remember that these living pieces of decor will require some care. It may be a good idea to choose beautiful but low-maintenance house plants that won’t require a lot of time commitment on your part. Select an interesting pot to plant them in, or express yourself with a DIY painted plant pot

The team at Panoramic Properties hopes these decor tips help you refresh your apartment decor on a budget.
