When you live in Sudbury, you can always count on a great beach destination that you don’t need to travel far to reach. In the summertime, a beach day is the ultimate staycation activity. Soak up the sun and enjoy a perfect day at the beach in Sudbury with these tips.
Pick your beach
Greater Sudbury is home to some pretty spectacular beaches! Here are the beaches we plan to visit and what you can expect there. Lifeguards are on duty seven days a week at all the blue flag beaches from 11 am to 7 pm between June 17 and August 20, 2023.
Moonlight Beach
Moonlight Beach on Ramsey Lake is blue flag certified which means it meets strict environmental, educational, safety and access criteria. To access this beach, head to Moonlight Beach Avenue.
Bell Park Main Beach
Bell Park is home to several beaches, but only the main beach is accessible and has lifeguards on duty. When we say accessible, we mean it! It even has a floating wheelchair. To reserve it, you'll need to call 705-674-9116. This beach is blue flag certified as well.
Capreol Public Beach
Capreol Public Beach is located off Lakeshore Street in Capreol on Marshy Lake.
Centennial Park Beach
Centennial Park Beach is located off Graham Road in Whitefish on the Vermilion River.
Kalmo Beach
Kalmo Beach is located off Kalmo Beach Road in Val Caron on Whitson Lake.
Nepahwin Beach
Nepahwin Beach is located off Paris Street in Sudbury on Nepahwin Lake.
Whitewater Lake Park
Whitewater Lake Park is located off Laurier Street West in Azilda on Whitewater Lake.
Fuel up
If you're spending the day by the beach, you'll need to eat at least one meal during or after your adventure. Packing food safely from home for the beach can be tricky. Hot weather and sun exposure pose potential food safety risks, but these local restaurants are near the beach and are great places to grab a bite or sit and enjoy a nice meal.
The Kouzzina
The Kouzzina, near Moonlight Beach, is a fusion restaurant where you can enjoy delicious flavours from Greece and Italy. The owners hail from Greece and Italy respectively, so you can expect real deal delicious food here. Visit them to tuck into pizzas, flatbreads, pastas and hearty mains like fillet mignon.
Mr. Prime Rib
Mr. Prime Rib, near Moonlight Beach, is a great option for those who like to indulge in steakhouse fare. Visit them for dinner for classic menu options like wedge salad and prime rib, or stop by for lunch for decadent sandwiches and burgers.
The Laughing Buddha
Whether you're looking for classic pub fare like nachos, club sandwiches and deep fried pickles, or want something nutritious like a veggie loaded buddha bowl, The Laughing Buddha near Bell Park Beach, is a fabulous food destination. They even have a big pizza menu and can make their pies gluten free and vegan for you.
The Keg Steakhouse + Bar
The Keg Steakhouse + Bar near Moonlight Beach is always a great destination for an excellent steak and/or seafood dinners with all the trimmings, and its Sudbury location is no exception. They're currently promoting a special lobster focused summer menu, in addition to their classic steakhouse menu.
Respect is Burning Kitchen + Bar
Respect is Burning Kitchen + Bar near Bell Park Beach is the ultimate destination for family-style Italian food in Sudbury. When you dine there, you can expect real Italian-Canadian soul food at its finest. These are the best dishes passed down through generations of nonnas and zias who can't wait to feed you. Order lots and bring friends to share their amazing bruschettas, meats and pastas.
