Why we love living in Bel Air Heights
posted on October 23, 2025
Nestled in Ottawa's desirable west end, Bel Air Heights is a sought-after neighbourhood that’s well worth your consideration. It’s a delightful mix of peaceful suburban streets and urban accessibility. Despite feeling far away from the hustle and bustle of downtown, it’s actually centrally located and close to everything you may need or want in Ottawa. Here’s more on why we love living in Bel Air Heights and why you will too.
A relaxed, green area
With tree-lined streets, classic homes, and an abundance of green space to explore, it's no wonder so many people, particularly families, are proud to call Bel Air Heights home. The neighbourhood is bordered by the Central Experimental Farm Pathway which is a great green destination for walking, running, and biking. It connects you to some of Ottawa's most beautiful green spaces including the Experimental Farm and Mud Lake. Within the neighbourhood you'll find beautiful parks like Agincourt Park and Bel Air Park. These parks feature fun playgrounds, sports fields, and beautiful walking paths. In the summer, families love to visit the wading pool in Agincourt Park, while in the winter the same space transforms into a skating rink.
An active community
The Bel Air Community Association is busy and vibrant. It hosts events that bring neighbours together. Think community-wide garage sales, summer festivals and winter fun days. This community hub makes the area ideal for families, retirees, and everyone in between.
A convenient location
Bel Air Heights’ location is incredible. You only need to take a quick drive to get almost anywhere you need to go. The area has easy access to the Queensway (Highway 417), making a commute to downtown, Kanata, or the airport a breeze. The area is also only minutes away from major amenities. College Square Mall is just a short walk or drive away. It’s a great one-stop-shop for groceries, home improvement, restaurants and more. It’s home to a Loblaws, Home Depot, LCBO, and a wide assortment of restaurants and services. IKEA and Queensway Carleton Hospital are also nearby.
Good food
Bel Air Heights and its surrounding neighbourhoods in Ottawa offer diverse and convenient dining options. Nearby College Square offers many options from fast food to sit-down restaurants. Area locals love restaurants like Chances R Restaurant and Summerhays Grill. You can enjoy a range of different cuisines here, from Greek at Yorgo's Greek Food & Pizza to seafood at the Merivale Fish Market. The area is also very close to Merivale Road which expands your dining choices a fair bit.
Great schools
If you’re a parent or guardian, you’ll have your pick of excellent schools in Bel Air Heights. There are a variety of public and private education options in Bel Air Heights. A few great public options include Agincourt Public School, which offers an Early French Immersion program and Woodroffe High School. It’s also very close to Algonquin College, which is very convenient for students, staff and faculty.
Architecture
Because Bel Air Heights was developed in the late 1950s, the area features charming, well-built homes like Campeau bungalows. The area is full of character and quality that is often hard to find in newer developments.
Bel Air Heights is a wonderful neighbourhood to call home. It’s quiet, safe, and friendly with a strong sense of community and built in convenience. It’s a place where you can enjoy the tranquility of a suburban oasis while being just a stone's throw away from all the amenities and attractions that Ottawa has to offer.
