Why we love living in Halifax in the summer

posted on July 21, 2022 in Halifax

Halifax is a great city to call home all your round, but summer is a really special time here. From beaches to beer gardens, there’s a lot to love about this seaside city in the summertime. Here are 10 reasons to love living in Halifax in the summer.

Balmy beaches

What's summer without easy trips to the beach? When you live in Halifax, you don't have to go far to find yourself on sandy ground. Be sure to visit the cream of the crop beaches in the area: Black Rock Beach, Rainbow Haven Beach, and Queensland Beach.

Bustling beer gardens

Summer is the perfect time to sit outside with friends and enjoy a cool pint or bottle of beer. Halifax has some fantastic beer gardens which are perfect for soaking in the sun and the suds. Our favourites are: Stillwell Beer Garden, Birch & Anchor, The BG - The Halifax Beer Garden, and The Stubborn Goat Gastropub.

The freshest seafood

Lobster, oysters, clams and fish and chips, oh my! You can't beat fresh Nova Scotian seafood and it's plentiful in Halifax. Summer is the perfect time to dig into some around town. Our favourite places to eat it are: Freddie's Fantastic Fish House, The Five Fishermen, and The Press Gang Restaurant and Oyster Bar.

Halifax Jazz Festival

2022 marks the 36th edition of the Halifax Jazz Festival! Formerly known as the Atlantic Jazz Festival, it is the oldest jazz festival and largest summer festival in Atlantic Canada. The festival attracts up to 65,000 visitors, involves 400 volunteers and employs over 350 local musicians.

Surfing

You don’t need to live in California or Hawaii to hang ten! You can surf right here in Halifax! Lawrencetown Beach Provincial Park is a popular surf spot around and the waves there are perfect for new surfers. You can even rent or purchase surf boards and gear nearby.

Wonderful waterfront

If you like ocean views, boardwalks, chic shopping, great restaurants and markets, you'll love Halifax's waterfront! It’s a great area to visit day or night all summer long.

Spectacular trails

Like to hike? You'll never get sick of Halifax's breathtaking hiking trails! Our favourites are: Blueberry Run Trail, Hemlock Ravine Park, Frog Pond Park and Mcintosh Run.

Pretty patios

There's no shortage of pretty patios in Halifax! Whether you want to grab a cocktail or dig into dinner, there are great patios all over town. We love spending time on: The Lower Deck, Stones Throw, The Stubborn Goat Rooftop and Cable Wharf Kitchen and Patio

Cool concerts

If you're a music lover, Halifax is a great city to live in. Many local pubs and bars host live music performances and ceilidhs, and there are excellent dedicated music venues like The Marquee Ballroom and Rebecca Cohn Auditorium where you can catch excellent performances.

Marvellous markets

You really can't beat the markets in Halifax and summer is a wonderful time to visit them when so much produce is in season. Our favourite markets are: Halifax Seaport Farmers Market, Halifax Brewery Farmers Market, and Halifax Forum Farmers Market

Halifax is such a gem of a city in the summertime! What are your favourite things about living here?
